Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the company that created the ChatGPT neural network that works with artificial intelligence, earned just $76,001 in 2023. This is reported by Business Insider.

It is noted that this amount is 3.4% more than his income in 2022, when he received $73,500. It is noteworthy that in San Francisco, where Altman owns a $27 million mansion, the average annual salary is $126,000. According to the US Social Security Administration, the average salary in the country in 2023 was $66,600.

Altman has previously stated that his compensation for his work at OpenAI is modest. In May 2023, he told the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee that he earned enough to pay for health insurance and did not receive stock in the company.

In March 2024, Bloomberg estimated Altman’s net worth at least $2 billion, not including his stake in OpenAI. This estimate includes $1.2 billion in venture capital investments.

According to OpenAI’s tax returns, the highest-paid employees were co-founders Ilya Sutzkver and Chris Clark, who received $347,400 and $322,200, respectively.
