Berkshire Hathaway, owned by American media magnate Warren Buffett, continues to reduce its stake in Apple for the third quarter in a row by selling shares. As of the end of September, Berkshire owns about $69.9 billion in Apple shares. At the end of the previous quarter, the company had $84.2 billion in Apple shares.

Through 2024, Berkshire Hathaway has consistently reduced its stake in Apple and other companies. The Buffett-owned company sold 13% of its stake in Apple in the first quarter of 2024 and about 50% in the second quarter of 2024. After the new sale, the company now owns about 300 million Apple shares. At the end of 2023, Berkshire Hathaway owned about 905 million shares of Apple, which means that today its share is about a third of that amount.

Berkshire Hathaway is building record cash reserves. At the end of the second quarter, the company's cash reserve was about 277 billion dollars, it is now about 325 billion dollars.

Warren Buffett previously stated that Apple would remain his biggest asset unless "something dramatic happens that really changes the capital allocation." He also said earlier in the first quarter that the decision to reduce his stake in Apple was largely made for tax purposes, although the continued sales seem to suggest there may be a more serious reason.

Apple shares are now near all-time highs. one share is worth 222.91 dollars.
