Telegram has received a major update, bringing a range of long-awaited features. Now, when playing videos, the app will automatically select the optimal quality based on internet connection speed. Group and channel owners can use a new hashtag format, and bots and mini-apps can earn revenue from ads. Additionally, users can now add a photo to an already sent message through editing.
Telegram has introduced a video quality selection system that automatically adjusts to each user's internet speed — with a slower connection, the app will choose a compressed version of the video, while a faster connection will offer the highest quality. Users can also manually select the video quality level (low, medium, or high).
Channel owners can now post videos in higher quality, which will be saved in multiple compression options to improve content access for users with different connection types. The “Picture-in-Picture” mode for iOS devices has been simplified and can now be activated with a simple upward swipe on the video.
New gesture controls for adjusting video playback speed have also been added. Users can speed up the video by 1.5x by holding their finger on the right side of the screen. A swipe to the right increases the speed up to 2.5x, and when the screen is released, the video returns to normal speed.
The process of editing sent messages has been simplified. If a user forgets to attach a photo, video, or file, they can add it by editing the message without deleting it. They can also replace an already attached file with another one, and the message menu will display the time of the last edit.
Group and channel owners now have new options for using hashtags. They can use the format #hashtag@username, which, when clicked, displays posts and stories only from the specified chat, simplifying navigation and search within individual chats and channels.
In addition, Telegram has expanded options for bot and mini-app creators. Content creators and developers will be able to receive 50% of the revenue from official ads displayed in their bots and channels. The number of free messages that bots can send has also been increased to 30 per second, with an additional paid option of up to 1,000 messages per second.
Changes have also been made to interactions with reactions. Users can now track the number of reactions by pressing and holding the reaction counter to see the exact number of reactions left or Telegram Stars.
