When will Apple release Vision Pro 2 headset?

April 30, 2024  22:18

Apple doesn't plan to release a second-generation version of its Vision Pro headset until late 2026. So, at least, says Mark Gurman from Bloomberg.

According to him, Apple's new Vision Pro roadmap "does not include the release of a second-generation model until the end of 2026." Earlier, in February 2024, Gurman suggested that Vision Pro 2 could be presented in the summer of 2025, that is, 18 months after the release of the original model.

Gurman's sources claim that Apple is still looking for ways to make the device more accessible, but significant progress in this direction has not yet been made, reports MacRumors.

Gurman's opinion is shared by another well-known insider, Ming-Chi Kuo, who in February expressed the opinion that the new Vision Pro models with significant changes will not go into mass production until 2027.

Perhaps Apple's plans will change once the Vision Pro hits the market in other countries. It is expected that the device will be available for sale in some regions, such as China and the UK, before the start of the WWDC 24 conference, scheduled for June 10.

On the other hand, poor demand for the Vision Pro is forcing Apple to cut back supplies and rethink the project: according to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple now plans to sell only about 400,000–450,000 units in 2024 - much less than the previously expected number of 700 000–800,000 units. Moreover, just 3 months after the start of sales for the Vision Pro, sales on the secondary market began to decline sharply - people are reselling purchased gadgets at significant discounts, which may also indicate that there is not much interest in this device yet, and therefore there is a rush to release The company is clearly not worth the new generation of headsets.
