YouTube to stop showing pop-up ads while watching videos, starting April 6

Google is optimizing and changing its YouTube ad formats. Starting April 6, it will no longer show pop-up ads that appear while watching a video on YouTube.

The company's management considers such an advertising format obsolete.

Currently, “overlay ads” are only displayed when a user is watching a YouTube video on a PC or laptop—as the company has long abandoned this ad format on mobile devices—, and such ads are disruptive to viewers.

Abandoning it, according to the company's representatives, will help improve the video viewing process and enable to switch to more effective advertising formats on both PCs and mobile devices.

At the same time, the company's representatives are sure that the abandonment of this advertising format will not have a significant impact on the creators of content on YouTube. Bloggers using such ads will be offered other ad formats—but what formats are not yet known.
