Elon Musk reveals how many employees are left at Twitter

Elon Musk, the head of the social network Twitter, reacted to the information that after the layoffs there were only 1,300 employees left in the company. According to the billionaire, this figure is a thousand less than the real number. According to him, there are about 2300 employees in the social network now.

CNBC reported this week, citing internal Twitter documents, that since Elon Musk took over, Twitter has lost about 80% of its 7,500 employees. According to the network, the company employs about 1,300 people, including fewer than 550 full-time engineers. CNBC also reported that it says about 1,400 Twitter employees are still registered and still receiving paychecks, but not working.

Responding to the network's information, Musk wrote on twitter։ "The note is incorrect. There are ~2300 active, working employees at Twitter. There are still hundreds of employees working on trust & safety, along with several thousand contractors."

In November, The Washington Post wrote that Musk intended to lay off 75 percent of Twitter employees. In fact, he has already cut about 2/3 of the company's workforce.

Although Musk recently announced that there would be no more layoffs, layoffs at the company continue. According to media reports, Twitter has been cutting staff and management in its Dublin and Singapore offices since early January.

According to former and current employees, the company is not paying the promised compensation when people are laid off. Some former Twitter employees told the media that as of early January, they had not received their final paychecks, even though more than two months had passed since they were laid off. Some employees received less than management had promised them.

In addition, employees said that refund notices were sent in a format that went into a spam folder, only to be accidentally deleted or simply not noticed. Several former engineers have even sued Twitter.

Massive layoffs are taking place in large international IT companies amid fears of a possible economic crisis and as part of maximum possible cost-cutting. For example, IT giant Google is cutting 12,000 employees, Microsoft announced that it will cut about 5% of its workforce or about 11,000 employees, and Amazon will lay off more than 18,000 employees.

Many other major companies are also downsizing, including Meta, Oracle, Tesla, Vimeo, and even McDonald's.
