WhatsApp will stop working on some iPhone models from May 2025: Which models are these and what to do?

Which devices will lose access to WhatsApp?

According to the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS (number 25.2.10.72 in TestFlight), the application now requires iOS 15.1 or higher. This means that starting from May 5, 2025, devices running iOS 14 and earlier versions will no longer be able to use the messenger.

The following are subject to restrictions:

• iPhone 6
• iPhone 6 Plus
• iPhone 5s
• As well as older iPhone models.

Users of these devices will not be able to send and receive messages, make calls, and use other WhatsApp features, including WhatsApp Business.

How to check the iOS version and what to do?

To find out if your iPhone supports the new version of WhatsApp, follow these steps:

1. Open "Settings"
2. Go to "General" → "About"
3. Check the line "iOS version"

If iOS 15.1 or higher is installed, the messenger will continue to work without problems. If the version is lower, users have three options:

• Try updating iOS (if possible for the device)
• Switch to an alternative messenger
• Replace the smartphone with a newer model

Why is WhatsApp refusing to support older iPhones?
