YouTube announced the launch of the automatic dubbing function, which has become for hundreds of thousands of channels focused on educational content.
It is noted that the dubbing process is carried out while the video is still uploaded. Authors can pre-listen and remove the soundtrack if its quality does not meet their requirements, both before and after publication. English videos can be dubbed into French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish, and vice versa. There is no Russian language support yet.
YouTube began testing automatic dubbing with a limited number of creators in the summer of 2023. The tool is powered by Aloud, an AI service developed at Google's Area 120 incubator.
In 2023, YouTube also made the feature of dubbing videos in different languages work. However, this technology is not automatic and does not work on the basis of AI - authors independently attach an additional audio track to the video, and users can choose the desired one. This feature is used by popular bloggers, including Mr. Beast, who adds Russian voiceovers to his videos.
