US Justice Department demands Google to sell Chrome

The US Justice Department demands Google sell Chrome browser and create conditions for providing its users' data and search history to competitors, Reuters reports.

According to the prosecution, such steps will help break Google's monopoly in the search engine industry and improve competition in the market. Now, according to some estimates, Google controls about 90% of the market for search engines on the Internet.

According to the prosecution, Google's illegal behavior has so far prevented new market players from entering the market and implementing their innovations, since Google controlled the distribution channels of the browser through the company's Google Play application store.

The US Justice Department wants to prohibit Google from returning to the Internet browser market for the next five years. Moreover, if the proposed measures aimed at restoring fair competition do not work, Google will be forced to sell the Android operating system.

The prosecution also claims that Google should be prohibited from buying companies working in the field of search engines, artificial intelligence or advanced advertising technologies.

The US Department of Justice and a coalition of states are demanding that Google’s exclusive contracts with Apple and other manufacturers of smartphones and tablets be terminated, under the terms of which Google itself becomes the default search engine for these devices.

Google will be able to present its proposals in December of this year, and the court hearing will be held in April of next year, if Donald Trump’s coming to power does not affect the course of the case by then.
