Android smartphones will be able to run Linux applications

Google has introduced the Terminal tool in Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1, which allows you to run software designed for Linux on smartphones. This feature, which is intended for experienced users and developers, aims to make the Android platform more attractive. Currently, the application is available only in test mode. To activate Terminal, you need to go to the settings section (Settings), then find the System menu, then open Developer Options and click on the Linux Development Environment command. After activation, the Terminal icon will appear in the main application list. Since Terminal is still in beta testing, the application sometimes randomly closes during launch.

The addition of a terminal for Linux software by Android reflects Google's long-term strategy to create a more efficient working environment that will make the most of the computing power of modern devices.

So far, it is known for certain that Terminal works on Pixel smartphones. Android Authority does not mention reviews left by users of devices from other brands.
