Ask Photos: Google will launch new AI assistant for photo searches

Google has started testing a new AI-based feature called Ask Photos, which allows users to ask questions about their photos and receive answers based on the content of the images. Additionally, the search function in the Google Photos app will be updated, The Verge reports, enabling a more intuitive way to find images.

Ask Photos uses the AI assistant Gemini, which analyzes photos and provides answers along with displaying images relevant to the query. This will significantly simplify the process of finding information about past events and help users recall important moments captured in their photos. Google notes that this feature can also perform various tasks, such as summarizing recent trips or selecting the best family photos for a shared album.

Moreover, Google has improved the traditional image search in the Google Photos app, now referred to as "classic search." Users will be able to search for photos using natural language, for example, by typing queries like "Alice and I laughing." For convenience, search results will be organized by date or relevance. For now, this feature will be available in English for both Android and iOS, with support for other languages coming in the next few weeks.

As part of these changes, the "Library" tab has been replaced with a new "Collection" page, designed to make it easier to find photos and videos. Google promises that the intuitive language search will help users locate specific images without having to scroll through thousands of photos or filter them by location.
