Apple has patented a smart ring

Apple has patented a new smart ring, as noted by 9to5Mac. The patent was discovered in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) database.

The description indicates that the wearable device will operate independently and collect data on user activity and health. "The collected data may be transmitted to other devices," Apple engineers pointed out.

In certain scenarios, the smart ring can be used in conjunction with other gadgets. For example, it could be paired with an augmented reality headset for control, more accurate text input, and device configuration. Currently, Apple has only released one mixed reality gadget under its brand — the Vision Pro headset.

According to media reports, the described control system could improve the accuracy of AR and VR headsets developed by Apple. However, they noted that the company might not proceed with the smart ring, as by the time it is needed, the invention may have become outdated.

In February, Bloomberg reported that Apple plans to introduce several new wearable gadgets in the coming years, including headphones with built-in cameras and smart rings.
