Google will launch service to find lost devices even if they are not connected to Internet

The Google Find My Device network, announced last year, is about to be launched and will help locate lost smartphones, wireless headphones, and trackers by leveraging a vast number of other Android devices around.

The new Find My Device network will be able to determine the location of a smartphone even when it's offline. Additionally, it will assist in finding headphones, headsets, and trackers with Fast Pair support, even if they're not connected to any device.

In an email to Google's beta testers, it was stated that the network will be launched "in three days," likely on Monday, April 8 — almost a year after the announcement.

This delay is due to Google and Apple jointly developing an industry standard that prevents malicious tracking of others' movements, as happened with Apple's AirTag released in 2021. The same protection will be implemented in iOS 17.5.
