Ozon and Wildberries will form their own insurance companies

Ozon and Wildberries plan to grow the insurance business. At the same time, Ozon will launch its own insurance company in the second half of this year, Kommersant reports.

Ozon told the newspaper that they plan to involve more than 20 specialists in the first phase. The team will be headed by the former head of Rosbank Insurance company Denis Gavrilov.

Ozon will launch a range of insurance services for 46 million customers and more than 450,000 entrepreneurs working with the platform. The company plans to insure the risks of sellers, orders and delivery points of products, in particular, purchases made from abroad.

Wildberries told Kommersant that they are also considering the possibility of launching an insurance product as part of the fintech direction, but did not provide details.

Experts are positive about this initiative of online trading platforms, believing that such a strategy will increase profits from financial services. At the same time, most market participants agree that it will be easier to buy a small insurance company with a valid license.

General Director of Infoline-Analytics company Mikhail Burmistrov said that financial services have become one of the key points of market business growth. "All market participants already have their own banks. in this regard, the players will create a complete range of financial services," he said.

It was reported earlier that Ozon is studying the possibility of introducing a brokerage service in its ecosystem. The company has already started actively looking for employees for the brokerage service.

The press service of Wildberries reported that the loan granting process will be carried out completely online. Sellers will be able to submit a bid from their personal account on the platform and receive funds within a day.
