If the asteroid is a hundred meters in size and hits the Earth at a right angle, it will destroy any large city.


A hundred-meter asteroid can collide with the Earth once in a million years, and a one-kilometer asteroid – once in ten million years.


Why are they exploring Mars? Because if the Earth is ever destroyed, evacuating to Mars could be a version of Noah's Ark.
