WhatsApp has a new feature

January 12, 2024  14:19

A new beta version of the WhatsApp messenger with added support for text formatting in messages has appeared on the Google Play app store. This information comes from the WABetaInfo portal.

According to the resource, the new option is implemented as a contextual menu during message editing. Through formatting, users can quote individual text fragments and also structure them into numbered or bulleted lists. To activate these features, users will need to use special symbols.

Similar functions were previously introduced in another popular messenger – Telegram.

The text formatting feature can be tested only in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android, with the codename 2.24.2.9. This version is already available for download in some countries for testing. The introduction of this new feature into the public version of the messenger is expected soon.

WhatsApp is the most popular messenger globally, owned by Meta, Mark Zuckerberg's corporation (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia). As of the end of 2023, the monthly active user base of the service exceeded 2.7 billion people.
