New Apple Watch smartwatch will have a large screen

The next generation of Apple Watch will feature an enlarged Micro LED screen, according to a new report by the analytical firm TrendForce, as stated by the company's Senior Vice President of Research, Eric Chiu.

Chiu revealed that the 2026 Apple Watch panel will incorporate a new type of LED – Micro LED. Additionally, he predicts that the matrix size will be larger than that of the current Apple Watch Ultra, by approximately 10%. This implies that the diagonal of the new watch will be around 2.12 inches.

Apple has secured agreements with two key suppliers of Micro LED screens: the German LED giant ams OSRAM and LG Display. Ams OSRAM will handle the production of micro-LED chips smaller than 10x10 µm. In turn, LG Display will be responsible for manufacturing additional components for the screens.

According to Chiu, the transition to Micro LED technology will significantly reduce Apple's expenses on watch displays. It is expected that by 2026, one matrix will cost the company around $120, making it 2.5-3 times cheaper than the current cost of OLED panels.
