YouTube introduces new rule to combat fakes created by AI

YouTube is introducing a new rule to combat fakes created by neural networks: from now on, content creators are required to tag videos created using content generated by artificial intelligence (AI).

According to Kotaku, YouTube's vice presidents of product management, Jennifer Flannery O'Connor and Emily Moxley, presented the new policy on the platform's official blog. Based on examples of videos using AI-generated content on YouTube's blog, the rule is aimed at combating various types of fake news, including deepfakes, where AI-generated content can be misleading, and realistic depictions of fictional events.

YouTube has also said it is willing to remove some videos, even those flagged as AI-generated, if they contain hate speech content or inflammatory depictions of violence.

Despite the introduction of the new rule, Kotaku doubts its full effectiveness, since YouTube does not seem to have the tools to uniquely identify AI-generated content.
