How will the new stage of evolution of AI technologies change people's daily lives? Bill Gates’ predictions

Microsoft Corporation co-founder Bill Gates has written a blog post in which he makes predictions about the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and its role in our daily lives. Gates believes that in the next five years, thanks to AI, the way people use computers and mobile devices will radically change.

According to Gates, soon there will be no need to use separate applications for different tasks. Instead, we will be able to interact with our devices using plain language, and they will be able to process and execute our instructions. This will be possible thanks to the development of AI-powered personal assistants, which will significantly surpass today's technologies.

Gates calls such programs "agents". He predicts that these agents will not only change how humans interact with computers, but will also radically transform the software industry. This will be the most significant revolution in computing technology since the transition from typing commands at a computer terminal to the use of graphical interfaces.

According to him, a key aspect of agents' performance is their ability to recognize the user as an individual. The more they know about a person, the better they can predict their needs and help them.

"Agents are smarter. They’re proactive—capable of making suggestions before you ask for them. They accomplish tasks across applications. They improve over time because they remember your activities and recognize intent and patterns in your behavior. Based on this information, they offer to provide what they think you need, although you will always make the final decisions,” Gates writes.

Gates also addresses the impact of AI on health, education, productivity, entertainment, and other areas of our daily lives. In healthcare, for example, agents will be able to assist with basic triage diagnosis and treatment advice, as well as help healthcare professionals make decisions.

In education, agents will complement the work of teachers by personalizing learning for students and freeing teachers from mundane, repetitive routine tasks. Productivity agents will help with a variety of tasks, such as writing business plans or organizing meetings. In entertainment and shopping, agents will not only make recommendations, but also help act on them. Gates sees AI as an integral part of every aspect of our existence.

In his blog, Gates also opines that agents will become the next big platform in the computing industry.

“In short, agents will be able to help with virtually any activity and any area of life. The ramifications for the software business and for society will be profound. In the computing industry, we talk about platforms—the technologies that apps and services are built on. Android, iOS, and Windows are all platforms. Agents will be the next platform,” wrote Bill Gates.
