AI penetrates Youtube: New features to be tested on premium users

Artificial intelligence technologies are actively penetrating almost all services known to us, and YouTube is no exception. The platform announced plans to test new features based on generative artificial intelligence offered to YouTube Premium subscribers: they will have access to a new interface where they can ask questions about content and receive recommendations, as well as a new function for summarizing comments on videos.

YouTube Premium subscribers will be given the opportunity to independently enable these features on the platform's experiments page. The conversational interface will be available in the coming weeks, while the comment summary tool will be made available to a limited number of users who pre-register for testing.

The platform's chatbot, powered by a large language model with access to YouTube data and the Internet, promises to help viewers "dive deeper" into the content they're watching by offering answers to questions and recommendations for similar content while they watch. For now, this feature will only be available to users in the US on Android devices. However, there are plans to expand its coverage in the future.

The comment summary tool, powered by generative AI, will facilitate user navigation by providing a quick overview of discussions in video comments. YouTube hopes this will encourage the creation of new videos. However, the comment summary functionality is only available for English-language content at this time.

The experimental features will be tested in the coming weeks, during which time YouTube will collect feedback from users about their experiences with the new tools. Participants in the experiment will be able to leave their feedback on the operation of these functions for their further improvement.
