Why did Windows Phone smartphones fail?

There are several reasons behind the failure of Windows Phone smartphones, an important place among which is the loss of interest of cellular operators in the operating system that ran these smartphones. The publication Windows Latest talks about this, citing the words of the former head of the Windows Phone development department at Microsoft, Brandon Watson.

In the United States and a number of European countries, mobile operators often focus on selling in-demand smartphones at competitive prices for their subscribers, which largely determines the success of certain models in the market. However, according to Watson, operator interest in Windows Mobile devices was short-lived, lasting only a few weeks before they returned to favoring iPhones and Android flagships, pushing Nokia's Lumia devices to the sidelines.

In addition, an important factor in the failure of Windows Phone, according to a former top manager at Microsoft, was the relatively modest application library compared to iOS and Android. Limitations in the development of the application store, including those related to insufficient support for third-party developers from Microsoft, turned out to be a significant obstacle to attracting users.

According to Watson, the biggest problem was that they didn't allow developers to use the tools that they used internally.
