WhatsApp introduces IP address protection for enhanced privacy during calls

WhatsApp has rolled out a highly anticipated feature aimed at bolstering user privacy. The latest beta version of WhatsApp includes an IP address protection feature during voice and video calls, according to information from the WABetaInfo portal.

This feature enables WhatsApp users to conceal their IP addresses while making calls, adding an extra layer of security to their communication. By doing so, potential attackers find it more challenging to determine the user's actual location.

IP Address Protection is now available in WhatsApp beta for both Android and iOS iPhones, with both versions numbered 23.20.1.73. To activate this feature, users should navigate to WhatsApp's settings, access the "Privacy" section, and enable IP address protection. This is especially useful when communicating with unfamiliar contacts, as it can help mitigate potential threats from intruders.

IP address protection works by routing calls through WhatsApp servers, making it more difficult to trace the user's true IP address. However, it's worth noting that due to the increased server load, the function may not always operate seamlessly.

Currently, the capability to utilize IP address protection is only accessible to select WhatsApp beta testers on Android and iOS platforms. The official release date for this feature on a global scale has not been disclosed yet, but it promises to provide users with an additional layer of privacy and security while using the messaging platform.
