Apple to make budget laptop for students

September 6, 2023  10:28

Apple company plans to release a new laptop that will compete with the budget Google Chromebook, reports DigiTimes.

Apple's budget laptop will have a metal body and cost less than $1,000, which will enable the company to attract customers from the education sector and medium-sized businesses that need reliable and affordable computers. The company is currently offering iPads at a special price to education institutions.

Apple has already ordered components for the new laptop from its main suppliers, Quanta Computer and Foxconn.
Apple's budget laptop is expected to go on sale in the second half of 2024.

At the moment, Apple laptops are n two series: MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. Their prices start at $999 and $1299, respectively. If the information about Chromebook’s competitor is correct, meaning that Apple's budget laptop will cost less than $1,000, it could become the company's best-selling laptop.

By the way, Apple has officially confirmed that its fall presentation will take place on September 12 at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus in Cupertino (California, USA). It will be held under the slogan Wonderlust.

The new Apple devices will go on sale on September 22, but it will be possible to pre-order them starting from September 15.

The EU has required mobile device manufacturers to switch to the USB-C standard by the end of next year. According to Bloomberg reporter and analyst Mark Gurman, however, Apple will not wait until the end of that period and will already switch from the Lightning charging system to USB-C in its iPhone 15 series, but at the presentation on September 12 it will be advertised as an innovation, and the aforesaid EU requirements will not be even mentioned.
