Philips Hue to introduce smart cameras with light show that can scare off thieves

Philips Hue, known for its innovative smart bulbs, LED strips and table lamps, is preparing to expand its product portfolio with smart home surveillance cameras.

According to Techradar.com, Eric Rondolat, CEO of Signify, owner of the Philips Hue brand, during its quarterly financial report, announced the imminent introduction of smart security cameras that will work in conjunction with existing smart lamps and tapes to create an intelligent home security system. The main feature of the new cameras will be the function of scaring off thieves with the help of a light show.

For example, when an outside presence is detected, the home lighting will flash red, giving the impression of activity inside the home. This can deter would-be intruders, as the light is visible from a distance, unlike audible signals.

Philips Hue security cameras will also receive end-to-end encryption, providing strong data protection and privacy for users.

Note that Signify was created in 2016 after the separation of the Philips Hue brand into an independent unit. In light of the latest announcements from the CEO, it can be assumed that the announcement of Philips Hue smart cameras could take place at IFA 2023, scheduled for September 1 in Berlin.

Interestingly, Signify acquired Hong Kong manufacturer WiZ in 2019, which already has experience in developing smart security cameras.
