Apple news: iPad Pro becomes more powerful, iPad 10 gets USB-C port, but there are also problems

October 19, 2022  10:25

Apple presented its new tablets without much fuss. iPad Pro has become more powerful with two versions: 11- and 12.9-inch screens, and iPad 10 has received a USB-C port. However, there are still problems; users will have to buy a new accessory with the new iPad: the USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter.

iPad Pro. higher performance, M2 SoC and Wi-Fi 6E

The new iPad Pro is powered by the M2 SoC chip, which, according to Apple, improves central processing unit (CPU) performance by 15% and graphics processing unit (GPU) performance by 35% compared to the previous iPad Pro. It seems that these tablets can outperform many laptops in terms of performance.

Apple's new tablets also offer:

  • A new level of Apple Pencil performance: the tablet can recognize the stylus at a distance of up to 12 mm from the screen, which can really greatly affect the work with it.
  • The world's most advanced mobile screen. The 12.9-inch tablet has a Liquid Retina XDR display that accurately reproduces colors and can be used for HDR image and video editing.
  • 12-megapixel main camera
  • Flash memory from 128 GB to 2 TB
  • 20W charging via USB-C
  • Face recognition
  • Thunderbolt cable
  • Four-speaker sound system
  • WiFi 6E adapter

The tablet can be pre-ordered today, but sales will begin on October 26. As for pricing, the more compact tablet costs $800, while the 12.9-incher starts at $1,100.

iPad 10: 5G, USB-C port instead of Lightning and a new design

The new 10th generation iPad has finally received a new design, got rid of the Lightning connector and switched to USB-C.

As NEWS.am Tech reported earlier, the new iPad 10 has a 10.9-inch screen and thinner frames, and the side frame is now flat. The webcam is placed differently, and during video calls the tablet should be held horizontally, not vertically, as before.

Both the main and front cameras use 12-megapixel sensors.

Indeed, Apple has finally removed the Home button and integrated the Touch ID fingerprint scanner into the power button.

The tablet is powered by the SoC A14 Bionic chip, while the previous generation iPad was powered by the SoC A13 Bionic. Equipped with Magic Keyboard Folio keyboard and Apple Pencil first generation stylus, iPad 10 has Wi-Fi 6 and 5G support.

However, there is also bad news. As mentioned above, along with the new tablet you will have to buy a new accessory: the USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter.

The 10th generation iPad has support for the first generation Apple Pencil stylus, but charging it via a wired connection will require an adapter, as the tablet already has a USB-C port, and the stylus can no longer be charged directly through the tablet. If you want to use the Apple Pencil, you need to charge it with a USB-C cable and a separate adapter.

Apple's press release states that pairing and charging the Apple Pencil (1st generation) requires the USB-C Apple Pencil adapter included in the new Apple Pencil (1st generation) kit: worth $99. And if you already have such a stylus, you can buy a USB-C adapter for it for $9.

The tablet costs about $450. The iPad 10 can be pre-ordered in the US starting today, with retail sales beginning October 26, just like the iPad Pro.
