The Chinese company Lenovo has shown a laptop with a rollable screen, and its subsidiary company Motorola, which produces mobile phones and other devices, has shown a new smartphone that is also rollable.

The phone is pocket-friendly at 4 inches long, but with the push of a button, the OLED panel extends to 6.5 inches. Another click returns the phone to its original size.

The phone is usable in both sizes, and the content of the screen adapts to changing sizes, including the main screen, as you can see in the video below.

Lenovo, for its part, has shown a laptop that also expands. In this position, it's more suitable for reading or working on documents, as well as watching vertical TikTok-style videos.

Brian Leonard, Vice President of Design for Lenovo, explained that the new laptop concept was developed as part of research that began with the ThinkPad 360P laptop/tablet.

"It can expand and become a much larger screen, and the content dynamically adapts to the screen, offering people an unprecedented way to increase the efficiency of various tasks, browsing, and more," he explained.

Motorola already produces a foldable device, the Razr, which is unfortunately only available in China. But rollable devices are even more difficult to manufacture. People seem to love them, for example, LG's rollable OLED TV was very popular at CES 2019. In a way, the rollable screen is also more elegant than the foldable one because there is no folding part, so there is no reason to worry.

This is still a concept version, and it is not yet known whether Lenovo will start its mass production.

Oppo and TCL companies have also developed concepts of rollable devices. LG even was planning to mass-produce an rollable smartphone, but the company stopped making mobile devices last year.
