Europe bans the sale of laptops with non-replaceable batteries

The Parliament of the European Union has adopted a new directive, which prohibits the sale of laptops in the EU territory, the batteries of which cannot be replaced.

As ComputerBase informs, the new law, which is aimed at extending the life of laptops and reducing the amount of environmentally harmful electronic waste, will come into force only three and a half years after its adoption.

The document states that mobile devices should be designed in such a way that consumers can remove and replace the batteries themselves.

The European Parliament's new requirement will make life difficult for almost all laptop manufacturers, as they all have models with non-replaceable batteries, including thin ultrabooks with batteries glued to the body of the device. In most cases, such batteries can be replaced, but this can only be done by service center specialists.

The new requirement does not yet apply to smartphones and tablet computers. However, it is possible that in the future the new rules will affect them as well.
