WhatsApp is testing a new feature that could help keep your main chat list less cluttered. The messaging app plans to automatically move messages from large businesses into a dedicated "Offers & Updates" folder.
According to GSMArena, this change is designed to reduce the number of service notifications—such as bank alerts, airline updates, and order delivery status—that pile up in the main inbox.
How the new feature is expected to work
When a user receives a message from a large business, WhatsApp will automatically transfer it to the new "Offers & Updates" folder after a set period of time. The company is reportedly testing different time intervals, with the longest delay being 24 hours.
Users will be able to disable the feature entirely in settings if they prefer to keep all messages in their main chat list. However, they won't be able to set a custom time delay—they'll have to accept the duration set by Meta or turn the feature off completely.
What's next
For now, the feature only applies to messages from large businesses using the WhatsApp Business Platform. Small businesses and individual WhatsApp Business accounts are not affected at this stage.
However, WhatsApp has indicated it may extend the feature to messages from small businesses in the future.
In brief
WhatsApp is testing a feature that automatically moves messages from large companies into a separate Offers & Updates folder. This should reduce service notifications in the main chat list. Users can disable the feature but can't customize the time delay. In the future, similar sorting may also apply to messages from small businesses.
