Apple preparing a premium “Ultra” product line: MacBook Ultra, foldable iPhone Ultra, and AirPods Ultra with cameras

March 9, 2026  14:24

Apple is reportedly developing a new top-tier category of devices under the Ultra brand. According to Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the company’s plans, the Ultra label will be reserved for the most advanced and expensive devices in Apple’s lineup — across laptops, smartphones, and audio products.

The first Ultra-branded products are expected to appear in the second half of 2026, likely during Apple’s traditional September launch event.

MacBook Ultra: a new flagship with an OLED display

The upcoming MacBook Ultra will not simply be a more expensive version of the MacBook Pro, but rather a new tier in Apple’s laptop lineup.

Its main differentiator will be an OLED display, replacing the mini-LED and LCD technologies currently used in Apple laptops. OLED panels provide:

deeper blacks higher contrast improved energy efficiency

However, adopting OLED may require significant changes to the internal design, including cooling systems and chassis construction.

According to sources, the device is intended as a separate premium product aimed at users who want the best possible display quality and top-level performance.

iPhone Ultra: Apple’s first foldable flagship

Apple is also expected to introduce its first foldable smartphone under the Ultra name.

The iPhone Ultra will reportedly feature a flexible display and several new technologies that Apple has not yet disclosed. The anticipated price is around $2,000, positioning it as the most expensive iPhone ever released.

Apple has been working on foldable device designs for several years. According to leaks, the company is focusing heavily on:

improving hinge durability minimizing the visible crease in the display

These two issues have been among the main criticisms of competing foldable smartphones.

AirPods Ultra: headphones with cameras and Visual Intelligence

Perhaps the most unusual product in the rumored lineup is AirPods Ultra.

According to Bloomberg, these headphones could include built-in cameras and computer vision features, enabling a system described as Visual Intelligence.

This technology would allow the headphones to:

recognize objects in the environment read text identify faces relay information to a voice assistant

Similar capabilities are already being tested in the iPhone 16 Pro, which integrates camera input with AI processing. In headphones, however, the concept could become even more practical because users’ hands remain free while looking forward.

Launch timeline and expected pricing

The entire Ultra lineup is expected to be unveiled in autumn 2026, possibly during the same presentation as the iPhone 18.

Although official prices have not been announced, early estimates suggest:

MacBook Ultra: likely above $2,000 Foldable iPhone Ultra: around $2,000 or more AirPods Ultra: significantly more expensive than AirPods Max

The Ultra branding appears to be Apple’s strategy to create a new ultra-premium category, allowing the company to sell devices above traditional flagship price levels without directly competing with its own existing product tiers.

In brief

Apple is preparing a new Ultra premium lineup, including the MacBook Ultra with an OLED display, a foldable iPhone Ultra priced around $2,000, and AirPods Ultra equipped with cameras and Visual Intelligence features. The devices are expected to debut in the second half of 2026, most likely in September. The Ultra brand is intended to define a new top-tier category for users willing to pay for Apple’s most advanced technology and design.
