A boiler that mines Bitcoin: Superheat H1 presented at CES 2026

The American startup Superheat brought an unusual household appliance to CES 2026: the Superheat H1 water heater, which simultaneously heats water and mines cryptocurrency. The device combines a storage water heater with an ASIC miner, turning the normally wasted heat from computing into useful hot water. This was reported by CNet.

How the Superheat H1 Works

The device is a 190 liter storage water heater with a built in specialized computer for Bitcoin mining. The main idea is simple: ASIC chips generate a lot of heat during mining, and instead of releasing this heat into the air, it is directed into a heat exchanger and used to warm the water in the tank.

According to the developers, the power consumption of the Superheat H1 is roughly the same as that of a conventional electric water heater of the same capacity. At the same time, the income from mining can partially or even fully offset the electricity costs, making water heating effectively free.

The price of the device is about 2000 dollars, which is 30 to 40 percent higher than traditional electric water heaters of similar volume. At the moment, the system works only with Bitcoin, but the company plans to expand support to other cryptocurrencies.

Prospects and Broader Applications

Superheat’s chief operating officer Julie Xu said that in the future such devices could go beyond cryptocurrency mining. She explained that the company is considering using the technology for distributed cloud computing and artificial intelligence workloads.

The concept envisions creating a network of thousands of Superheat household units combined into a decentralized source of computing power. This could significantly reduce the load on traditional large data centers while simultaneously solving the problem of utilizing waste heat from servers.
