Matt Murphy, head of Marvell Technology Inc., an American supplier of processors, microcontrollers and telecommunications equipment, may become the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Intel Corporation, one of the world's largest chip manufacturers, according to people familiar with the situation, Bloomberg reports.
Another candidate is the former CEO of electronic design automation software developer Cadence Design Systems Inc., Lip-Bu Tan.
According to sources, Intel Corp.’s search for a new CEO will focus heavily on outsiders.

As a rule, the head of Intel became the person chosen from within the corporation itself, Bloomberg notes. But this week’s sudden ouster of CEO Pat Gelsinger—who also had joined Intel earlier in his career—set off an urgent search for new leadership.
The search come at a time when the chipmaker’s fortunes are shaky and its bench has been depleted by years of management turnover, writes Bloomberg.
Pat Gelsinger stepped down as Intel's CEO in early December. For now, Chief Financial Officer David Zinsner and Executive Vice President Michelle Johnston Holthaus are serving as interim co-CEOs.
