Counterpoint Research has released a fresh report on the most popular smartphones in the world for the 3rd quarter of 2024.
Leading the list were the 2023 devices, with iPhones taking the first three spots. In total, Apple accounted for 4 smartphones, Samsung got 5 places, and among them squeezed in one budget device from REDMI.
Thus, the base model iPhone 15 took 3.5% of the global smartphone market. For comparison, last year iPhone 14 occupied 3.8%. It is noteworthy that the top 3 were last year's lineup of Apple smartphones: the second and third places were taken by iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro.
From fourth to seventh places are budget smartphones Samsung: Galaxy A15 4G, A15 5G, A35 5G and A05. They are followed by the basic iPhone 14.
In ninth place is the budget Redmi 13C 4G, and closing the top 10 is the basic flagship Samsung Galaxy S24. Cumulatively, the top 10 smartphone models accounted for 19% of all global sales, which is a significant figure.
Thus, with the exception of various iPhone models and one Samsung flagship, the top ten most popular devices are dominated by budget South Korean smartphones. At the same time, the new iPhone 16 did not make it to the list.
If you look at the detailed statistics by country, then in September 2024 in the United States in the top 5 almost entirely belongs to Apple. And the first three places behind the new models - iPhone 16 Pro Max (18%), iPhone 16 Pro (10%) and iPhone 16 (8%) respectively. The fourth place - iPhone 15 (8%), the fifth place - Galaxy A15 5G (6%).
