Google's management has been worried about the decrease in browser search traffic and profits due to the development of artificial intelligence (AI), the proliferation of marketplaces, and the deterioration of the quality of search information provided by Google. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) wrote about this in an article entitled “Googling Is for Old People. That’s a Problem for Google.”
“If Google were a ship, it would be the Titanic in the hours before it struck an iceberg—riding high, supposedly unsinkable, and about to encounter a force of nature that could make its name synonymous with catastrophe.
“The trends moving against Google are so numerous and interrelated that the Justice Department’s attempt to dismantle the company—the specifics of which were unveiled Nov. 20—could be the least of its problems,” wrote the WSJ.
The newspaper cited the forecast of the eMarketer platform, according to which in 2025 Google's share of the US search advertising market will drop below 50 percent for the first time.
The WSJ noted that the young generation uses other platforms to gather information, especially AI. For example, OpenAI Corporation has added internet search to ChatGPT. Meta Platforms intends to create its own search engine. Even chat-bots with AI solve many problems, and Microsoft and Apple integrate them into their operating systems, the newspaper added.
Moreover, Amazon earns billions of dollars from employers because users go directly to the marketplace when choosing products, bypassing Google search. According to the data of Skai advertising platform, the number of clicks on ads on Google decreased by 8 percent compared to last year.
The popularity of Google is threatened also by the fact that the search results are decreasing due to the content created by AI.
