Since the summer of 2024, scammers have been actively creating automated chats to steal Telegram accounts. This was reported to Gazeta.Ru by Alexander Vurasko, development director of the Solar AURA external digital threat monitoring center of Solar Group.
“It is noteworthy that everything in this scheme is automated. Potential victims are added to a chat, where they are asked to vote for someone they know whose account has already been hacked. The link to the chat leads to a phishing resource, and the chat itself is created and moderated automatically,” Vurasko said.
According to the expert, chat activity is maintained with the help of bots, which report that they have already voted and encourage others to do the same. When a user tries to express suspicion or ask questions, their messages are immediately deleted, and they are removed from the chat.
This mechanism was previously used in a fraudulent scheme, when the victim was asked to rate products in the markets, and then buy them. The victim was also added to a group chat in the messenger, where most of the participants were bots, which create the illusion of active activity.
In order not to become a victim of scammers' tricks, the expert recommends not providing personal data on suspicious sites and in conversations with strangers, including logins, passwords and two-factor authentication codes. At the same time, you should use exclusively official resources and check their address using a search engine, as well as use antivirus programs for additional protection against malware and phishing attacks.
