The team of the popular WhatsApp messenger is working on a new feature that will help users quickly verify the authenticity of photos sent by their interlocutors. This feature is already available in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android and is likely to be included in future iOS updates. This is reported by WABetaInfo (WBI) resource.
The Internet image search feature is designed to combat unscrupulous callers who may pass off someone else's work as their own. For example, companies can send photos of their products or services, and unscrupulous callers can manipulate customers by presenting other people's work as their own.
To use this feature, the user must open the resulting image, click on the three dots in the upper right corner, and select the "Find Online" option. After that, WhatsApp will open your browser and search the web for similar images. This will allow users to quickly check if the image was taken from the web.
Not only will this feature help identify scammers, but it will also be useful for quickly finding products and services sent by loved ones. Users will be able to verify the authenticity of images published in the news, social networks or memes that can be used to spread misinformation.
At the moment, the innovation is under development and will be available in a future update of WhatsApp.
