Telegram messenger has launched its own currency, Stars, to pay for digital goods and services in Telegram mini-apps, from e-books and online courses to game items.
Stars currency can be purchased through payment systems in the App Store and Google Play online stores or using the PremiumBot bot.
Apple and Google will keep a commission of up to 30% from users when they buy Stars currency. However, Telegram promises to subsidize ads purchased with Stars, so the commission will be almost zero.
Creators of Telegram mini-apps will be able to convert the received Stars currency into Toncoin cryptocurrency using the Fragment platform.
The creators of the messenger promise that the Stars currency will have even more functions in future Telegram updates. In addition to purchasing digital goods and services in mini-apps, it will be possible, for example, to send gifts to content creators.
