How to understand how protected a smartphone is from water and dust?

If you want to determine the degree of protection of a smartphone from water and dust getting inside, first of all, you need to pay attention to the Ingress Protection (IP) classifier.

According to Alexander Rusnak, lead product manager at RuStore, the IP classification consists of two numbers, each of which represents a specific aspect of protection. The first number indicates the level of protection against dust and foreign objects, with number 6 indicating maximum dust resistance. The second digit determines the protection of the device from water.

For example, if a smartphone has an IP68 rating (the most common rating that most smartphones receive today), that means it is dust-resistant (6) and can withstand being submerged in water to a certain depth (8). The higher the numbers, the better the protection.

Manufacturers usually indicate the degree of security of a smartphone according to the IP classification in the device description. This classifier can help users select devices according to their needs and usage conditions.

However, keep in mind that while a higher IP rating usually means better protection, it does not guarantee absolute protection from damage in all conditions.
