19:13 13 March, 2026One of the world’s largest cryptocurrency forums, TOKEN2049 in Dubai, has been postponed for nearly a year. The event, originally scheduled for April 29–30, 2026, will now take place on April 21–22, 2027. Organizers announced the change following the worsening security situation in the Middle East, Coin Gabbar reported.
The conference traditionally takes place at Madinat Jumeirah and annually brings together thousands of startup founders, investors, and blockchain company representatives from around the world.
Industry sources say the postponement was decided due to growing geopolitical tensions in the region, which created risks for international travel and guest participation.
Drone and missile incidents cited as key reason
One of the main factors behind the postponement was the recent military escalation in the Middle East. Reports indicate that during the escalation following strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, drone attacks and falling missile debris were recorded across the region.
According to media reports, fragments of a missile fell near Palm Jumeirah, injuring four people and causing property damage.
Disruptions were also reported at Dubai International Airport, where drones reportedly landed nearby, leading to flight cancellations and delays.
According to BBC, authorities in the United Arab Emirates said that more than 1,800 drones and missiles had been launched toward the region since the conflict began. Some buildings and hotels were reportedly damaged.
Amid the situation, several international companies also strengthened precautionary measures. In particular, banks Standard Chartered and Citigroup moved part of their staff to remote work.
Uncertainty over ticket refunds
Following the postponement announcement, one of the key questions concerns the fate of already purchased tickets.
Organizers said that sponsorship agreements have automatically been transferred to the 2027 event. However, it remains unclear whether ticket holders will receive refunds or whether their tickets will automatically be transferred to the new dates.
Ticket prices ranged from $699 for basic access to $5,999 for premium packages.
TOKEN2049 is considered one of the most influential events in the Web3 and blockchain industry. The previous conference gathered more than 15,000 participants, around 200 speakers, and hundreds of companies from over 160 countries. Expected speakers included industry figures such as Paolo Ardoino, Richard Teng, and Pavel Durov.
