The most popular PC builds among Steam users in January 2026

Valve has released updated statistics on the hardware configurations of Steam users’ computers. January’s data shows stability across most parameters, but there are several notable shifts — especially in the segments of video memory and display resolutions.

GeForce RTX 4060 holds the top spot

NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4060 remains the most popular graphics card with a 4.16% share (+0.46% over the month). In second place is the mobile version of the same GPU at 3.79%. This is not the first month the 4060 has led the rankings, suggesting it offers an optimal balance of price, performance, and power efficiency for most gamers.

The shift to 16 GB of VRAM accelerates

January’s most visible trend is the sharp rise in graphics cards with 16 GB of VRAM: +5.85% in a single month, bringing the total to 14.55%. That is more than a one-third increase compared to December. At the same time, the 12 GB segment dropped by 4.01% to 15.07%. Users are clearly opting for higher-capacity configurations despite rising memory prices.

RAM: 32 GB has nearly caught up with 16 GB

Despite ongoing shortages and rising RAM prices, the share of systems with 32 GB of memory climbed to 38.02% (+1.45%). This is now close to the most common capacity — 16 GB — which stands at 40.24%. Systems with 64 GB or more are still rare, but the trend is clear: gamers and content creators increasingly see 32 GB as a sensible minimum.

Windows 11 continues gaining on Windows 10

Windows 11 now accounts for 66.71% (+0.11%), while Windows 10 holds 27.79% (+0.28%). The migration to the newer OS remains steady, although many users still prefer the time-tested Windows 10.

Display resolutions: 1440p slowly growing

Full HD remains the dominant format at 52.59% of users. However, the share of 1440p (2560×1440) displays has grown to 21.32% (+0.73%). This suggests a gradual shift among the Steam audience toward higher resolutions, although 4K remains niche at under 3%.
