Apple introduces AirTag 2 with a 50 percent increase in search range and a louder speaker

Apple has officially updated its most popular Bluetooth tracker by releasing the second-generation AirTag. The main improvements focus on a longer operating range and better audibility of the device. The company announced this on its website.

What Has Changed in AirTag 2

The first and most noticeable upgrade is that Precision Finding now works at a distance that is 50 percent greater than in the original model. This became possible thanks to a new Bluetooth chip with an extended range and a more accurate ultra-wideband UWB module.

The second major improvement concerns the built-in speaker. Apple states that it has become about 50 percent louder. This should make it much easier to locate the tag in noisy environments or when it has fallen under a sofa or a car seat.

In terms of appearance and size, AirTag 2 remains unchanged. It still has a compact circular body with a diameter of 31.9 mm and a thickness of 8 mm, IP67 water and dust protection, and a replaceable CR2032 battery. All other features such as support for the Find My network, anti-stalking protection, and Lost Mode remain the same.

Price and Sales Start

Despite the improvements, Apple has kept the same pricing. In the United States, one AirTag costs 29 dollars, and a pack of four costs 99 dollars. In Russia and other countries, prices are traditionally higher due to taxes and logistics.

Sales will start on January 26, 2026. Pre-orders are already available.

What AirTag Is Used For

AirTag is a small tracker with Bluetooth and UWB that helps locate lost items through the Find My app. People attach it to keys, wallets, backpacks, suitcases, and baby strollers. Many dog and cat owners fix it to their pets’ collars. Some parents sew it into children’s clothing or hide it in a car.

The Find My network includes hundreds of millions of Apple devices worldwide. This is why an AirTag can locate items even at large distances when your own iPhone is not nearby.
