Svyatoslav Pegov, head of the Center for Sports Programming and Esports at Ufa University of Science and Technology, told Pravda.Ru how to recognize infection and protect against threats.

According to Pegov, the first and most obvious signal is slow computer performance. If the device starts taking noticeably longer to complete tasks, it may indicate a virus. Other alarming signs include:

• Unusual notifications and pop-up windows: messages appearing without reason.
• Suspicious processes in Task Manager: press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager and check the “Processes” tab. If you see unfamiliar programs consuming CPU or network resources, it’s a red flag.

“You see processes you don’t recognize, and they’re putting a load on your computer. That’s a clear sign of infection,” the expert emphasized.

How Do Viruses Get onto a Computer?

Pegov noted that most malware comes through fake links distributed by scammers in emails, messengers, or on websites. Clicking on unverified links is the main mistake users make.

“Never click links if you’re not sure of their source. This is the most common infection route,” he warned.
