Hackers have reached spaceL Expert notes most dangerous attacks

Hackers have already learned how to attack space infrastructure and regularly try to break it, now the most vulnerable are navigation systems, and the main threat is targeted attacks and hacktivism, when using cyber attacks to draw attention to social or political issues, Kaspersky GReAT expert Isabelle Manjares told  RIA Novosti.

"The most dangerous thing in space right now are hackers and targeted attacks on infrastructure, especially on navigation systems, including GPS and GLONASS," she said during the Security Analyst Summit.

According to the expert, the entire space infrastructure can be divided into three segments: satellites, signal receivers and everything related to them, and end users.

"The most vulnerable part is the receivers themselves, that is, the threat to space is now only the ground part of all technologies. The architecture of these receivers leaves a large number of potential vulnerabilities open to exploitation. It is important that such devices do not have access to the Internet, but they often do, and it is very dangerous," explained the researcher.

At the same time, according to him, the number of attacks in space is increasing along with the growth of technology and the number of space infrastructures. "Location services are the most under attack right now, but there are attacks on both Starlink and OneWeb, in general, the most vulnerable part is, of course, the low-orbit satellites and their infrastructure," she concluded.
