18:12 9 September, 2024Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates admitted in an interview with The Verge that he is an active user of ChatGPT, which helps him with explanations on specific issues and writing texts.
As noted by iXBT, this statement surprised experts, given that Gates, with his significant financial resources, could hire an entire team of researchers and fact-checkers. Nevertheless, he prefers to use ChatGPT, despite the well-known reliability issues common to chatbots and other large language models (LLMs).
In the interview, Gates also emphasized the importance of expanding Microsoft’s multi-billion dollar partnership with OpenAI. He mentioned that he continues to serve as an advisor to Microsoft and that investments in this area are hard to overestimate. However, Gates left the company in 2021 after 40 years of service.
These statements raise questions about Gates' role at Microsoft and his relationship with OpenAI. In the past, media reports suggested that Gates continues to exert considerable influence at Microsoft and played a key role in maintaining ties with OpenAI CEO and co-founder Sam Altman.
