Neuralink has already placed its implant in 2nd patient’s brain

The Neuralink implant, which aims to help paralyzed people to control a computer with the power of their thoughts, has been successfully implanted in the brain of a second person, American entrepreneur Elon Musk, who owns Neuralink, said in a podcast with YouTube blogger Lex Friedman.

“Everything seems to have gone very well with this implant. It receives many signals and has many electrodes. It works perfectly," said Musk, adding that 400 electrodes are operating in the patient's brain.

Musk also noted that the company plans to increase the number of patients with Neuralink implants to 10 by the end of the year.

Earlier, Nolan Arbaugh, the first person to receive the Neuralink chip, said that although some of the electrodes have detached from his brain (about 15% of them are currently working), the device's effectiveness continues to increase. Arbo expressed hope that the next participant in the experiment will be able to activate 90-100% of the electrodes, which will open up new possibilities that are not available to him now.

Nolan Arbaugh was completely paralyzed due to a spinal cord injury. The device was implanted in the part of the brain responsible for the human motor system and connected to microwires that read signals from the brain. These are transmitted wirelessly to a computer application, allowing the patient to control the device with their thoughts.

It was reported earlier that Nolan Arbaugh is already playing chess on the computer, as well as other computer games, and beating healthy people thanks to the Neuralink implant.
