Turkey has blocked Instagram

Instagram social network was blocked in Turkey on August 2, RIA Novosti reports.

It is noted that since the morning of August 2, it has become impossible to access the social network from both mobile devices and computers.

The Turkish regulatory body clarified that Instagram access was blocked by the decision of the Information Technology and Communication Council. The reasons for the blocking are not mentioned.

On Wednesday, Turkey's presidential communications chief Fahrettin Altun criticized the social network for blocking condolence posts over the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of the Palestinian Hamas group.

"This is censorship, pure and simple," Altun wrote on X, adding that Instagram did not cite any policy violations for its actions.

Instagram's parent company, Meta Platforms Inc, has not commented on either the ban or Altun's comments.
