Dynamic Legged Systems Lab has developed a VERO robot that cleans beaches from garbage, and the Russian company Severstal has started to make the first attempts to use the robot dog created by Deep Robotics in its factories.

VERO the robot dog

The VERO (Vacuum-cleaner Equipped Robot) robotic platform developed by engineers of the Italian company Dynamic Legged Systems Lab is a unique solution to the problem of beach pollution, reports New Atlas.

The project is a highly upgraded version of the Chinese AlienGo robot, equipped with a vacuum cleaner with special plastic hoses and gaskets located near the robot's foot and providing high suction pressure.

The two cameras allow the robot to recognize cigarette residue on the beach and plan an efficient collection route. When VERO detects a cigarette residue, it places its foot next to it and waits for the air to pull it into a special chamber.

Research shows that VERO is able to collect up to 90% of tobacco residue on beaches.

Deep Robotics' robotic dog

The company Severstal conducted the first tests of the Deep Robotics robot dog in its workshops. The testing took place on the territory of the enterprises of the two companies, informs the Prime agency.

During the tests, the robot demonstrated the ability to navigate the terrain, transport metal samples using a manipulator arm, and follow safety rules. As a practical application, he delivered the refractory mass briquettes directly to the foundry furnaces where they are used.

According to the company's representatives, thanks to the advanced technologies of computer vision, 3D profiling and LiDAR, the robot dog can perform various tasks, including measuring objects, moving objects weighing up to 40 kg, performing inspections and diagnosing equipment.

It can also check the availability of personal protective equipment for employees, perform analytical studies of thermal images and create maps for the development of digital twins of enterprises.

The company plans to continue testing the robot dogs at its other facilities.
