iPhone is out of top 5: Smartphone sales in China rose for first time in 11 quarters

Smartphone shipments in China in the first quarter reached 63.3 million units, up 1% from last year. Prior to this, shipments had been consistently declining for 11 quarters, ixbt.com reports.

Data published by research organization TechInsights showed that in the first quarter of 2024, Apple's market share was only 13.7%, causing the iPhone to drop out of the top 5, yielding to OPPO (including OnePlus), Honor, Huawei, Vivo, and Xiaomi.

OPPO, Honor, Huawei, and Vivo held similar market shares. OPPO shipped 10.7 million devices in the first quarter, leading the Chinese smartphone market with a 16.9% market share. Honor's shipments increased by 1% annually to 10.6 million units, with a market share of 16.7%.

Huawei's shipments significantly increased by 118.8% annually to 10.5 million units, and its market share reached 16.6%, placing it third. Vivo and Xiaomi took fourth and fifth place with market shares of 16.1% and 15.0% respectively.

TechInsights reports that the top six smartphone manufacturers collectively accounted for 95.1% of the market share, which is higher than 93.7% a year ago.
