Apple-sized Beepberry: a pocket computer for hackers has been introduced

14:09    18 May, 2023

Pebble founder Eric Migikowski unveiled an unusual device called the Beepberry, a pocket computer with a keyboard similar to the keyboards of the once popular Blackberry phones and a 400x240 resolution Memory LCD display. The keyboard on it is indeed a Blackberry Classic Q20 phone keyboard powered by a Raspberry Pi Zero W processor.

The device is originally designed to run Beeper, a universal messaging app that integrates everything from WhatsApp to iMessage. Migikowski, however, describes the Beepberry as an "e-paper" laptop for hackers. Apparently, it can indeed be "hacked" and made to do many other things. The developer's website provides several examples to help guide you: with this device it is possible to check the weather, play Ascii Star Wars, Cyberdeck, run the Gomuks Matrix client.

Technical characteristics of the device:

The Beepberry costs $79, and the $99 kit includes a pre-installed Pi Zero W processor.

Only 50 Beepberry devices are currently available for pre-order. Device software and interface can be downloaded from the developer's website. In addition, a community has appeared on Discord, which is engaged in the development of this project.
