NASA to launch Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope in 2027, it will take 100,000 pictures a year

NASA engineers are working on a new space telescope that, in some ways, will have even more capabilities than the James Webb and Hubble Space telescopes.

The new telescope will be named Nancy Grace Roman, after one of NASA's first female executives who played a major role in the Hubble's design. The launch of the new telescope is scheduled for 2027.

The capabilities of the Roman and the Hubble telescopes will differ significantly in terms of their photographing scale. As experts explain, the Hubble or the James Webb telescopes, of course, have extreme sensitivity, thanks to which it is possible to view in close-up the space objects that are really far away from us.

The Nancy Grace Roman telescope, on the other hand, will have a larger field of view and will enable to view a large-scale panorama of the sky at the same time.

In addition, it can take pictures 1,000 times faster than the Hubble. According to preliminary data, The Nancy Grace Roman telescope can take about 100,000 photos a year. It would take much longer for the Hubble or the James Webb telescopes to photograph the same part of the sky.

With the help of this new space telescope, specialists will be able to count the number of exoplanets in one galaxy, observe the distribution of galaxies to study dark matter, and perform many other tasks in order to study the universe.
