DRAM prices could double by the end of 2026

Prices for DRAM modules (computer memory) could double by the end of 2026. This was stated by a regional manager at Lexar in a comment to Tom's Hardware.

Why prices are rising

Despite occasional discounts in retail stores, these are temporary in nature. Sellers are currently clearing out warehouse stock purchased at older, lower prices. New batches of memory will arrive at a significantly higher cost.

The main driver of the price increase is the artificial intelligence boom. The largest memory manufacturers (Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron) are actively reallocating production capacity toward high-margin HBM memory for servers and AI systems. As a result, shipments of standard memory for the consumer market are shrinking, leading to shortages and rising prices.

Forecasts revised

As recently as the end of 2025, analysts expected a gradual stabilization and even a decline in DRAM prices. However, explosive demand from the AI industry has completely changed the situation. Most experts now forecast a sustained upward trend at least through the end of 2026.

In brief

By the end of 2026, RAM prices could double. The main reason is manufacturers shifting focus to producing expensive memory for AI and data centers. The consumer segment is facing a shortage, and current store discounts are merely a clearance sale of old stock at low prices. Experts recommend buying memory in advance if you are planning a computer upgrade in the coming months.
